Kochi, again

September 20, 2017 Wednesday

Back to the hotel in Kochi. They let us keep our luggage there, so all we had to take aboard the boat.

St Francis Church

Information bit

St. Francis CSI Church, in Fort Kochi (a.k.a. Fort Cochin), originally built in 1503, is the oldest European church in India and has great historical significance as a mute witness to the European colonial struggle in the subcontinent. The Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama died in Kochi in 1524 when he was on his third visit to India. His body was originally buried in this church, but after fourteen years his remains were removed to Lisbon

Marine walk to see the Chinese Fishing Nets

The seafood looked good, but we had no where to cook it!

lunch spot!

Fresh lime soda. the stuff in the little cup was sugar, but the lime juice was sweet enough.

Shrine to someone

Our evening entertainment was to see a Kathakali dance performance.  Kathakali means the art of story telling through dance. It is an ancient art form.

We got there in time to see the performers put on their make up

Full make up but not full costume

Part of this type of play is that they use their eyes to tell the story. Not words.
This actor was showing us all the eye movements. It made me sort of dizzy watching it

This actor is the prince.  He will be tricked by a beautiful women who is really a demon sent to bring the prince to the under world

In the end, the prince realizes what is happening and kills the demon

After the play, we went to a cooking demonstration in a private home. She gives these demonstrations quite a bit.  Nannie's kitchen.

Her kitchen was beautiful.

It was an interesting evening.

Time to get back to the hotel so we can sleep before Chennai.
